I stayed out of the streets, hit my books and tried to be somebody

Diddy’s father was killed when he was 3. Diddy feels that his dad definitely played a role in the route that he went on – staying out of the streets and hitting my books and trying to be somebody. “I have his hustler’s mentality, his hustler’s spirit, his drive, his determination, his swag.”

Diddy went on to become a highly successful rapper, record producer, actor, and entrepreneur. Combs was born in Harlem and grew up in Mount Vernon, New York. He worked as a talent director at Uptown Records before founding Bad Boy Records in 1993. He has released a number of his own albums, won two Grammy Awards and two MTV Video Music Awards, and is the producer of MTV’s Making the Band. His non-music business ventures include the clothing lines, a movie production company, and two restaurants.
